Cat <Cat@sonetcom.com> Thu Apr 16 06:16:41 EDT 1998

Wierd story idea, came to me while I was driving home this afternoon. Inspired, oddly enough, by Tom Lehrer's 'The Wild West is where I Want to be.' Actually managed to write it tonight, after a four hour nap and a bit of research. Sleep is for wimps, by the way.

dancingferret has my vote, too.

Anyway, here's hoping that everything settles down soon. They're cutting hours at work, but *I* am about to go into overtime. Sheesh.

Mab's Blessings,

Vandellyr Quior <wilderun@swbell.net> Thu Apr 16 12:44:00 EDT 1998

Hmm....Choices...Well, I like the dancingferret. So I would choose that of the two.

What about B-town as a choice, Sticks? We use that name alot anyway. What would we do at this new server? We some how would have to get messages too our friends like Terri Windling and Midori so they would come visit us there too!

the stickman <> Thu Apr 16 13:43:17 EDT 1998

van> good thinking, but it's taken... btown AND b-town... *pout*
basically, i was thinking it would be a place for all our stuff, where we could all have web pages if we wanted, email addresses (or at least aliases, y'know, like vandellyr@dancingferret.com) and all the other stuff... i have both terri and midori's addresses, so, once it's ready, i'll get in touch with them...

*sigh* Okay, my turn for car trouble... The Subaru is sending clouds of oily smoke through the vents inside the car and from under the hood... I checked the oil and there wasn't ANY in there...thought it was just a leak, took it in, found out it's a "timing belt cover" or something like that. -.- They have to take the front part of the engine off to get to this... Luckily it's under warranty but NOW?! During finals?! Gahhh. Well, my trusty Kawaii na Neon-chan is still working, fortunately. Grumble. Just venting, don't mind me. ;p

grey <cloud of unknowing> Sat Apr 18 17:56:15 EDT 1998

Please continue to grumble, Claris. Like you, I am also dealing with the Final Two Weeks of Projects, but I'm so exhausted that I feel absolutely numb about it. Reading your grumbles reminds me of what I'm supposed to be feeling. Guess I'm also feeling a little depressed 'cause when I graduate (May 9), I lose access to the computers at school, and I have no computer at home--and no Van to let me come over once a week. I'll still visit the 'Board whenever I can get the public library, but it feels like I'm being exiled to the real world. I'll get a computer at home some day, but I don't know when.

Grey! That's bad. I'll miss you, and add my NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! in with everyone else's... yes, Corva, we are being decomputerized... maybe you'll get a job at a nice library that has a nice computer??

Claris <ccsmith@comp.uark.edu> Sat Apr 18 23:16:24 EDT 1998

Bother, Grey, that sucks. BTW, our labs here don't check IDs or anything. YOu can just wander in (esp. in the summer, when the parking's easy), and use the WWW. Might your school or another local university have that kind of lab? Worth a check. *g*

Does *anyone* have the "Marches Wherehouse" b&w logo I did some time ago? It's not archived, I don't remember the file name, and I've searched for all the obvious ones on my 'puter, and it's not there... o.o WaaaH! I really really need it, and if you go to http://members.xoom.com/wherehouse you'll see why. ^_~

Thanks for all of your expressions of dismay. I'll miss y'all terribly, too. And thanks for offering to let me come over, Cat. Might take you up on that...*g* Actually, Claris, OU doesn't check id's when you enter the labs, but their plot is even more diabolical. You have to have a valid student id number and password to log onto the computers themselves--and they cancel the id's for students who don't re-enroll. But I will be hangin' around in libraries, so all is not lost. Sniff. And a cheap computer will find its way into my possession one of these days, I'm sure of it.(Grey squinches her eyes tightly shut and chants, "I DO believe in fairies, I DO believe in fairies...)

Cat <Cat@sonetcom.com> Sun Apr 19 21:53:16 EDT 1998

You do that, Grey. I'm looking forward to meeting the sidekick sometime..

Bad day at work today. Carol left for San Antonio this a.m. to get her Army-guaranteed further training to become an Operating Room nurse, which is cool except for the part about leaving for San Antonio. Then, I wrote one little email wondering what we were supposed to do with our tax software now that the season is over, and the District Manager (bigger fish than the regional manager, even) jumped all over-- get this-- my store manager.

Not me. My store manager. Who didn't even know I'd sent that email. (I, BTW, didn't know that mailing the all-software department list also addresses several bigwigs.) So once I'd located an answer to my original question, I wrote the District Manager a nice note on behalf of my boss. The first half was an apology; the second half was pointing out that if I had the information in the first place, I wouldn't *have* to write 'frivolous' emails. So I'm kind of waiting to see if I'm gonna get in more trouble for that response, or if he's gonna grow a brain and let it go now. But if I ever see him in person, I'm going to have a hard time restraining myself...

Okay, sorry to burden you all with that. Just another day at work... Scary part is, I usually like my job.

Claris>> ditto on the logo comments. <>

This one is not happy with the idea of losing track of you all together...isn't it funny though, that we who have found each other on line - to keep each other we must have to resort to the older forms that simply reamined waiting for us? Angelfriend de'puter, Emberly heading that way, Greylady as well...ergh. Well, you are my friends and i'm gonna do what i can to be saving that! Hey Tech! My attempt being: our moderator is disorganised and impossible to reach, the topic has been changed three times (whenever I'm not there or others aren't!) and the final topic was chosen and only tiold to me two days ago. Leaving me one evening to come up with a speech about the Faustian condition as it appears in literature. Grrrr. Other than that things are going well. Corva, tell Van when you get the package?

Well, I'm back. I don't think I've ever been so relieved that things were moving slowly on the list before. (I was expecting to have a couple o' billion messages waiting for me when I got back, but it was actually a more readable number.

As a side note, the trip went well; it was kind of nice to lay aside the paperwork and actually work with product for a while; it felt like I was finally doing something useful again. Also, that was the best I've eaten in a while (Hastings paid for food, too!) and the natsy ole district manager had already pulled out by the time we arrived. I also learned a few more naughty songs in the car on the way up, so all in all it was a great road trip!

Does anybody know anything about these work at home word-processing/data entry kinds of jobs? I found an advert for one in the newspaper, and (what with work being the way it is), I'm seriously considering trying it out. Working from home sounds like fun (well, as long as I spend all my time in front of the computr anyhow...) The catch is, they want money from me to get me started, which makes me a bit nervous. Do any of you have any experience with this kind of thing? Horror stories? recommendations?

Cat>> I cringe whenever people I've never seen want me to front money for an unknown product. However, I do know someone who has done data entry/book keeping from home for a medical group. Cat <Cat@sonetcom.com> Wed Apr 29 04:59:19 EDT 1998

Yeah, sounds like everybody else pretty much feels the same way I do about this. There's gotta be a way to get one of these jobs without paying someone to to do it. I guess I'm just gonna have to spend some time searching out companies that need that sort of thing, because I'm honsetly not certain that I can afford to spare the cash they want from me anyhow. (sigh) Of course, if I had that kind of cash, I wouldn't need to be looking at such a thing. erg.

Okay, going away now.

Sid <at work, bored, but reading a good book.> Wed Apr 29 11:15:20 EDT 1998

A while back I answered an add for the 'make money reading books' deal, supposed to be free info and they ended up wanting me to pay $25 for a book on how to do it... needless to say I didn't get it. I'd love to have something like that, but so far the closest I can get is reviewing books (but I get to keep the books!) Which isn't bad, but I'm still looking. of course, if I ever get off my butt and submit something, maybe I wouldn't have to worry...I can only hope. Gotta go! Good luck on whatever you decide, Cat.

Claris <ccsmith@comp.uark.edu> Wed Apr 29 18:27:32 EDT 1998

Vandellyr Quior <wilderun@swbell.net> Wed Apr 29 21:17:53 EDT 1998

Don't get involved with that type of thing Cat. From my investigation into those kind of "businesses", you end up getting ripped off. But if you are still curious...check you Better Business Bureau and see what they have on report for the company in question. mmmmm.....the weather has turned sunny here. and, while *i* can't go out in it (cheesy as it is, my pasty skin is overly sensitive....and to do so would be painful and, sometimes, scarring), it makes the world, for now, a bit nicer and makes it all move at a pace which is kinder to my stressed out self.

sticks, i would love to be ember@dancingferret.com. i seem to have this bizarre magnet thing going on right now where i am finding myself in possession of homepages and e-dresses......(hm...coinciding with some possible and new tech in my life.....perhaps the techgods smile on ember?)

just a slow day at the office.....my desk pretty well cleaned off. mind straying to the border....old friend last night dancing dragged me back into the vampire world i spent so many years playing in. been a very strange internal me of late.......so i thought i would take a peak at what is going on here.....sigh....back to trying to find someting to do. *grin* can't decide whether to love or hate this pace........

ember, rambling off again

Sticky! Good to hear-- err, see the news! Yay! If Van hasn't bookmarked I certainly will.
Corva, the shakuhachi is kind of like a complicated recorder. Found my fife last night to my neighbors' chagrin. Fun today, it decided to rain in my bathroom (not a cloud in the sky). The draining plumbing must be leaky. I believe Wicker Leaf-and-Tree had a brother who was good at plumbing. Rather humorous as he was an elf and leader of the Bloods last I read, to boot. (Don't mess with me, I'm so bad, I've got this iron pipe, here, to bash that monkey head of yours with. Oh, and grrrrr.) Ack. Scary plumber thoughts. I guess that would be one plumber I wouldn't turn away from because his jeans were half down. Normally, though, yuck. Oh, jeez, I'm just going to have to draw this picture in my head. Strange angle though. Not sure.... Sketchy book not here. -,-; crap. Nice to see everybody!

corva <crownest> Sat May 2 03:46:43 EDT 1998

elven plumber crack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and this is your little gift for us all before we go to sleep? You have a fife? wooden? who made it? wish i were the flute player that i think you think that i am! But i do love to play! I am such a slow learner, something that jsut must be dealt with. I've how over the years, proven that i am not stupid that i just learn differently, but teachers (past and present all) have a very hard time with me. They think this one trys not when in truth it is jsut how i am...took me seven months to learn to keep three balls in the air juggling and i've seen the lurker teach someone samesuch in a three hour afternoon...ergh...STICKS! tell us how to come and play and set up House! Is is very much like the WhereHouse opening up and letting us all in! can we stay, huh, huh, can we? was just number nineteen to visit...when are all you student types free of your finals so we can say whoopppee with/for you? ...nodding off now...

Paper Angel <> Sat May 2 18:23:53 EDT 1998

Corva, it could be worse. I could tell you about the pornolanche or 'falling latex' hazards that occur occassionally at my job. (Cries of "Tape up? *You* tape it up! QA! QA! You *have* a tape uuup!" echoing in her soiled mind.) Let's see, nothing makes one's night like hearing the rubber thing you were fencing with in a fit of lunacy last night was being returned because the motor was bad. @@;; 'The horror, the horrrrror...' Especially when you were the one being beaten the worst with it because it wasn't your idea. (Pointing at head, trying to emphasize the mental scarring.) Hey, well, I know if I ever really need money I can say I was assaulted, battered, and sexually harrassed all in one fell swoop. Sue sue sooooeeeeeee. Annachie, how did that go? ^_^ (Again, trying to emphasize the mental scarring.)

Cat <...Who is almost back to his old self...> Tue May 5 05:21:13 EDT 1998

My apologies to everyone; I ought not to leave posts when I'm feeling sorry for myself. I deeply appreciate your concern, and your sympathy-- you all know, I hope, how much it helps to hear it. The major problem is work related, but I've had a string of bad timing and unfortunate coincidences for the last couple of days. All of which has affected me more than usual, because my lady wife is out of town, getting her training as an Operating Room nurse, until some time in August.

I've spent the last couple of days getting myself focused and centered, and working over what exactly is going on and what I need to do about it. Now that I've got the parts I can work on sorted out, I'm off to work on them. (The parts I can't do anything about will just have to mind themselves.) Thank you all; my thoughts, and my gratitude, go with you...

grey <d_walker@ou.edu> Tue May 5 19:39:15 EDT 1998

Hey, Cat, that's tough. Being w/out a spouse for that long is difficult. You'll have to come and hang out with us (me and the side kick) sometimes this summer. We're not going to let you spend all your time holed up with a book--even though sometimes that *is* the most comforting thing. Your instinct about the job sounds like a good one. I did bookkeeping for a drug store that couldn't get it together financially, and when I refused to "doctor" their records for the central office, they simply changed my hours so that it would be impossible for me to work there. Will keep my ear to the wire about other possibilities for you...Good luck in Altus.

Just had to say, I just got out of my last class...ever! Yay! I feel great. I couldn't have done this w/out you all. You've kept me sane this year, reminding me of things that are really important, and seeing me as the person I really want to be. Thanks, all.

Ethereally, Grey

NRL <riposte@earthlink.net> Wed May 6 02:14:54 EDT 1998

Cat, glad to hear you're finding focus. Troubles are only temporary. Of course they're replaced by fresh troubles, but... uh, variety is the spice of life? Geez, that didn't end nearly as cheering as I'd hoped. Hang in there anyway. Angel, having worked in a video store with a filing system baeed on the building techniques used in the construction of the tower of Babel, I know exactly what you're talking about. Or almost exactly. We didn't sell toys. Yikes! Anyway, the compulsion, when faced with some shamefaced customer returning with a particularly raunchy tape, to say in a clear and penetrating voice, "You rented that!?" was almost irresistable sometimes. Ah, those were the days. G'night all!

Cat <Cat@sonetcom.com> Wed May 6 04:02:54 EDT 1998

Thanks, NRL, I feel much better now... <>

Actually, I should count myself fortunate that my problems are no more urgent than they are. It would be a whole lot worse if I were looking for work because I was *already* out of a job... And of course, I still have the cats up here, who are determined to show their support by sitting on my hands and playing with the mouse while I'm trying to type. Wayward already tried to send this message for me...

yep, i'm writin' from work and actually including my edress here. why? because i absolutely love what i can see of annachie's page.....quite lovely. makes mine look well......like i tend to look next to annachie. (memories of the last time we were on haight.....mr. dignified annachie and ember the shabby........*grin*) BUT!!!! whether i look at home or work, i get an error.....apparently my computers don't understand "images".....at least that's what the jscript error i get says "images undefined". so if anyone would like to send *nice* advice to me, i am at the work edress all day and at celestne@nwlink.com in the evenings. (nice advice means you don't rub my nose in the fact that i'm not as cyberpunk as i wish. *grin*)

anyhow, stickman, you are going ot either have to quit in your quest or join up with me. i am already in possession of a large quantity of the *universe* and would be happy to share if you buy me nice presents. :-)

sid.....um.....at least you are writing. not that i have entirely stopped. but i find that my 40 hr work week saps my energy (cause it's realy more than 40 hours......eats more like 60 hours of my week) and i write much less than i used to......(which those who hated my poetry are glad of *grin*)

cat: i hate hate hate the job hunt. i would rather eat ground glass. of course, i want the same sort of job you've mentioned. so when you are bombarded with offers, send some my way. *grin* otherwise, as i have a stable, icky but stable, job, i'll send things your way if i see them. best luck!

oh, anyone want to alter a graphic for me? 'fraid all i've got is paint......and i just need an ear made pointy.....and the picture stretched a bit.....paint did a so-so job.....but....i'm choosy......picture is the b&w one on my page , which was very nicely built by a friend.....who finally gave me the password, so now *i* can think about making changes....

oh, and while i'm babbling, anyone on here interested in artistic collaboration? it's my newest thing. have already mentioned my desire to annachie......and am open as to specifics.....just my newest, ambiguous creative urge....*grin*

okay, gonna go back to being my normal quiet self :-)

sigh....well, am glad all didn't get too annoyed with my little mistake putting a link up. yes, i modeled for the card. jesper and i are friends and he has proclaimed me his favourite model....even remember the setup for that shot. the page itself has very little to do with my talents.....was all put together by the original nice tyrant who recently gave me the password.

okay, so i am in a mood. stuff has been going mostly badly since last wednesday, but i have been doing okay. i'm not exactly new to ick, and i have even managed to keep my spirits from spiralling. but now i'm worried that this new position i was sure i was getting is going to go to a co-worker who i feel a bit backstabbed by. and this relationship i was considering seems to have floundered and died. and my roommate loses more and more braincells every night (computer games and popcorn are his only friends lately), to the point that my patience is worn quite thin.....somthing about living in the city makes me unhappy when he can't even lock the door before he goes to bed......whine whine whine

don't i sound like a little goth princess?
*snicker*

it's not as if i don't see the good and the beautiful......i'm just having a rough workday too (computer only half functioning....erk). hopefully lunch with an old friend will help me bolster my spirits.

oh, and sticks, send email to celestne@nwlink.com (home) or amber.bird@faa.dot.gov (work) to talk about collaboration (artistic or universal dominance....*grin*) and we'll come up with something.

Though my long lost Cynthi said I looked too much like an elf long ago. >sigh< CYNTHI!!! Miss you dammit! Miss Grey.

Annavhie, I can get to your lovely page but nothing works. I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm using Netscape of some kind (2, I think?). I see the Babelon script and the tower and if I move the cursor on the tower different html pop up. That's it. They all dead end and I'm not sure what else there is?

ember, I loved your page. I had no idea just what kind of an elegant goth you were. Beautiful creature, you!

I've gotta conjure up a poster for alt.buddha.short.fat.guy... I do them annually and I'm payin' fer a Vul-opps- Lawyer. =) (trying to get Child Support from a guy who gives males a bad name...) so I'm walking in circles PONDERING the possiblities. Job hunting not looking particularly well. lots of people like my portfolio but "gee we really need someone with more experience." OH and _The Shadow_ tapes were gotten at Barnes and Noble. I don't even know why I went in there, but I did, and I saw them... and the rest is history. I may even write a _Shadow_ story involving at least one of my Shadowrun characters. It'll be quite wierd. Nice Mother's day, took my daughter to Target got her some summer clothes and some jeans, and we had a great time. She gave me a great card, some chocolates ("to get you fat") and a silver bracelet with flower shaped links, each with a little colored stone in the center. well, gotta crash now. TK

grey <nevernever> Mon May 11 12:13:42 EDT 1998

I miss the list... Well, Sticks, when I am queen, everyone will have to read books they like and I will ban elastic and no one under 130 lbs. will be allowed to model clothes unless they can prove that it's genetic and they eat a lot of good food, or unless they're under 5'2", in which case I guess they can weigh a little less, and coffee growers will have a direct communication line to the throne.

Good luck to all of you job hunters. I'll be joining your ranks very soon. I would rather have teeth pulled w/out painkillers than look for a job.

Guess what? My very dear grandparents almost gave me heart failure this weekend by giving me a $1000 check for a graduation present. The side kick made several "Ha, ha, just joking" hints that we should use it to help pay off a li'l of the credit card. I laughed. I'm getting a computer. In a month. Yay! I'm currently collecting advice from everyone I pass and cumulating it into a game plan.

elegant goth?!?!?!
*choke*
beautiful creature?!?!?!
eek angel, living alone has gotten to your brain!!!!

seriously, i may be a pretty face, but by no means consider myself an elegant goth. sheesh, those pictures are all at least 3 years old.......last time i was elegant was Christmas eve 1996 (my little sister initiated it....."you *are* going to that party. and i am going to make you look elegant. and he is going to regret that he ever said no to you!" sigh.......didn't work, but i did look elegant, pajama pants and all *snicker*) and i shouldn't even start on my "goth is an adjective, not a noun" rant, as i may offend folks i like on this board.......nope. not a goth. just part of the whole underground scene i've been swimming in forever and ever.......elegant? boy, still floored by that. aside from not thinking any of those pics are elegant, i am such a working grrl. i am dead after my 8+ hours.....come home and put on....well, anything comfy and easy......even get myself mistaken for a long-hair boy if i leave the house sometimes......

okay, i'll go be amazed by angel's statements in the "privacy" of my own little grey cube. ack.

though i did promise my "twin brother" that i would dress up like i sometimes used to for the gary numan/switchblade symphony show friday.....eek....i've been so lazy....haven't gotten all gothed in a year maybe.......but maybe i will have to get/find more updated pics for my page.......

oh, and as far as x-files last night, if that had happened on the border, ember would have taken care of the whole issue befoer mulder got himself put away
*smug grin*

yeah yeah.....i'm leaving........

ember <not elegant> Mon May 11 20:30:31 EDT 1998

oh look, me again......sigh....so, in thinking too much all day, i have figuredout why being called elegant actually *bothers* me. in the afore-mentioned story of "the last time i was elegant"....the male that was supposed to realize he was a fool is also the only person who has ever, in my memory, called me elegant. in fact, i don't fight with friends, but i remember *fights* where he insisted i was elegant and i insisted he was smoking crack. even wrote poems about what a lie my "elegance" was....hrm.....strange how such a tiny word can just set me off......bleh.

anyhow, home now. going to eat and go to bed. work already ate *me*.....good ev'n to all.

ember
us old folks go to bed early.....

Sid <jst_clair@sprynet.com> Mon May 11 21:47:22 EDT 1998

Hey, wonderful news, Grey! Get a nice one, they're getting cheaper!(at least around here they are.) Ember, thought you looked very wonderful in the pics, (notice I didn't say elegant, but I thought that too. :-) And I missed the X-Files, was out house-hunting with fiancee(or however you spell the male version of that word) sheesh. knew I forgot something, too. And next week's the season finale... gotta watch it.

Sitting here with sick kittens who are sneezing and drooling all over my lap, oh joy. But I've always had a soft spot for kittens.

Cat <Cat@sonetcom.com> Tue May 12 10:48:46 EDT 1998

Back. Antibiotics are cool. Being sick isn't.

Grey>> Glad to hear! You're still welcome to come peruse the list on mine! (Though, I'd wait 'til it's a bit safer to breathe the air around here...)

And yeah, that X-files gave me a nasty turn, too. I was like, aha! So that's it!

Sid>> Kittens! Arg! Too... Cute... Must... Look... Other... Way... Willpower.... Almost... Gone! (gasp!) Almost took one home yesterday myself, except I was pretty sure the oldest cat would come unzipped if I did that.

ember... ~_@ ??? I'm sorry I'm sorry! Somebody shoot me please! I may compliment again!!! I'm a repeat offender, cuff me! Pull that neat-o Beetlejice trick with the iron gag! >sob!< I can't help it! I'm chronic...! >choke< ...and I labelled you, too! >collapsing on the floor, typing blindly as tears are too evident to see through< Forgive me! Please? Don't make me be-heh-hehhhhg!

Wow, you take compliments like I do, only I generally don't retalliate! >grin< ember, if I didn't correspond with you prior to this I'd think you were attacking me! I certainly will try to give you neutral compliments from here forward! I am really very sorry to have upset you and brought up crappy memories of people who are blind to your personality. Little pensive though. You aren't actually pissed off are you?

Grey!!! You hard-working girl you! Very happy for you!

NRL <riposte@earthlink.com> Tue May 12 22:01:33 EDT 1998

Rats. Wrote a long post last night, but the #$%^&^%$ program timed out before I could send it. Basically it said; things going pretty well and yikes, Angel coming in a month! Better start cleaning! Um... And that was it. Just more entertainingly put. Erm, neutral compliments... wow! What a concept. Kinda like the truck I walked by today the sign of which said it was from the Individual Group, Inc. Made me pause. And reminded me of a t-shirt I wanted to sell. "I'm an individual too!" G'night, all.

Annachie <annachie@babelon.com> Wed May 13 01:24:02 EDT 1998

Ember>> You know you can be elegant (you just make it a point not to be)... And no, I didn't get to see the X files, but since your last post, I've been asking everyone I know if they recorded it.

Grey>> Cool, new toys are always fun.

NRL>> I'm coming too!!! I'm not sure where I'm staying. I figured I'd get a room around where you are or around where Corva's staying (thought it would make things easier since I would have a car), but I have no definite plans yet.

Have we figured out what we are doing for the Cos play at A-Kon?

ember the Ice Queen <celestne@nwlink.com> Wed May 13 18:30:35 EDT 1998

angel: no offense taken! really! i was mostly shocked at my own reaction to that.....read the original thing at 05:00 as i shoveled cereal into my mouth. then laughed and ranted about it the whole way to work with my carpool. who simply looked at me archly and said "exactly what was wrong with her saying that?" and now that i've figured out where the reaction came from, i am still not srue that i think "elegant goth" defines me (you're just trying to pigeonhole me! help! i'm being repressed!), but i guess i can see where i have managed to fake it on occasion.....or something. *grin* besides, if i were offended, i'd have sent your address to every junk mail place i could :-P and feel free to heap all sorts of blazing compliments on me! when it was a self esteem issue, i crawled under a rock. now i just sometimes almost blush........

annachie: what?!?!? me elegant? i don't believe i know you sir. apparently, you are mistaking me for some other shabby weirdo.....*grin*

and *i* recorded the x-files (gotta have em for my sister when she gets home from chile, don't i? so you should come visit and see *grin*

corva <> Wed May 13 21:41:36 EDT 1998

Sid <> Wed May 13 22:12:42 EDT 1998

and I'm right behind her!

ember <05:00 is no time to be up> Thu May 14 08:00:50 EDT 1998

seriously, i currently have this big o'l livingroom floor......

of course, my tv is the same size as my roommate's dinky monitor.....but i'll have spots for you two ladies when you arrive ;-)

Sid <> Thu May 14 22:13:06 EDT 1998

don't I wish, Ember, I'm afraid I'll be lost on Sunday when I watch it...

Sid's writing a b-town story, by the way, if it goes well, does anyone want to read it?

Sid <> Thu May 14 22:37:03 EDT 1998

Actually, its more of a b-town monologue. I think she (is/will) be sitting in Tarin's room writing it (right now/in a few minutes) in the story... she insisted. Can't do much when she insists on stuff. :)

Anyway, if anyone wants to read it when I'm done, they can, but its mostly like a diary entry(if she had a diary, that is)

Sid <> Thu May 14 22:51:42 EDT 1998

just makin' the list longer tonight, can't tell I'm bored, can you? anyhow, it only ended up a little over 450 words, not much of a story at all. ah well.

corva <> Fri May 15 01:09:08 EDT 1998

so, where is It Sid? Hey Ember, what color carpet do you have and should this one bring popcorn? Hey NaRL, found another chunk for you! be sending it in a BOX this time...hiangelfriend! talk to ya 'morrow? yesmaybehuh? Annachie, are you certian you cannot assist in a kidnapping?

NRL <riposte@earthlink.net> Fri May 15 02:48:36 EDT 1998

Annachie, it'll probably be easier, and more convient, to get a room near me, since Corva's place is on the hill and there aren't as many cheap and tawdry hotels out that way. My neighborhood on the other hand is crawlinbg with them. Also, I looked at the Rave Page and they said it would be somewhere in Burbank which is just over the hill from me. On the other hand, I think I see what you were saying. It would be better for Corva if you stayed out her way if she doesn't have a car. Okay, never mind. Talk amongst yourselves. Corva, looking forward to getting my piece of Alaska. Thanks. Angel. How are you getting here. Any idea? What airport/ bus station/ stage coach stop and I picking you up at? G'night, all.

ember <just five moreminutes and i swear i'll get up mom!> Fri May 15 08:00:54 EDT 1998

corva: beige-ish brown-like. and popcorn is optional. never like to charge a toll to friend-sorts :-)

ember <can you believe i worry at this hour?> Fri May 15 08:04:50 EDT 1998

so.....whatever is the story with the dancing ferret? not to sound pushy (i'm really not a pushy person) (shut up annachie :-P) but i feel like i hold my breath everytime i hop on the board these days, sure the god of archiving will have stricken it down........(one day at work i couldn't make it go.....and i sat there worrying--yep, that's what *i* do with the taxpayers' money--and hoping it was just my work server)

no really, i'm not a worrywart......:-P

trinlay <trin@dias.net> Fri May 15 08:44:40 EDT 1998

Emmber-la, the "dark shadow" over your workplace is named "The Spirit of Buracracy" it always infests government buildings, and often other places of business. A major hazard of working with this demon around is a loss of interest/caring/compassion for clients.... Don't lose your heart! TK

Sid <at work, but not for long!!> Fri May 15 11:14:11 EDT 1998

Oh, is that what's wrong at the library these days, Trin? Makes sense to me.

Cat <Cat@sonetcom.com> Fri May 15 13:25:18 EDT 1998

OMG, the 'Spirit of Bureacracy' is spreading! It's shadow engulfs Lawton as well! Is there no stopping the foul beast?

the stickman <> Fri May 15 13:33:06 EDT 1998

hi all.. been scarce these days, moving house... life SUCKS! *grin* going thru' 20 years of stuff, while fun in a nostalgic way, is a REAL pain in the ass! *LOL*

STILL waiting on verification from internic re: the ferret... still no word... when i get my comp at home put back together, i'll get in touch with the people i rented the space from and find out what the deal is..

Sid <> Fri May 15 14:59:42 EDT 1998

Oh, you too, sticks? Hey, what is this, the cleaning weekend? I'm attempting to fit all my clothes (sorted, thank god) on our formal dining room table, and I don't think they're going to fit!! I'm going to bury myself under clothes! Help! (grin) And mine's only 12 years of stuff(in this room, at least.)

ember <cold-hearted before the job got me!> Fri May 15 18:46:09 EDT 1998

hrm....well.....let's see if we're out of italics....actually went to the source view to see your entire comment, tk! you used the little aligators instead of parentheses (okay, so i never got over calling them alligators! guess i liked the part of elementary school math where we did greater/less than......)

thing is, while the govt is old hand at theis shadowy stuff, the spirit of uncaring is a part of much of our whole world. in general, even folks like me who (don't tell) passionately care end up getting icy at heart to be safe. mind you, i was born with this Ice Queen in me......but even those who are super nice by nature (one of my sisters comes to mind) have developed a cold spot just because we (humans in general) have stopped caring. (oh my goth! i sound like an old hippy! oh well! stevie nicks *is* a goddess......so no shock that i would say and believe stuff like that *grin*)

ack! listen sid, is it jsut that all us black-wearin' freaks like clothing too much? i swear, half of why i am set on living alone is that all closet space is mine and anywhere with two walls can support a tension rod for more clothing.......and i still look and say "nothing here to wear".....maybe we artsy people just have to always be as impressed with our clothes as we would be with a poem or painting? dunno....keep trying to justify this clothes-whore problem of mine *grin*

gotta go draw a design for makeup......will have only an hour to get changed from govt girl to "elegant goth" for the switchblade symphony/gary numan show tonight. had fits last night cause i thought i'd lost my white powder. annachie, have you seen the more-goth-me i used to be? i can't seem to find her........

Sid <jst_clair@sprynet.com> Fri May 15 19:40:28 EDT 1998

Okay, I have a 12 ft long table full of clothes, and four chairs piled high, and I'm not done! Pardon my language, but shit!!! I didn't realize I had this much clothes! I really didn't! It boggles the mind! Just wait 'till I post the pictures I'm taking. :) Its the "clean your room in four days" article. Figured I'd be an expert by the end...I don't officially start until tomorrow, but at least I think I'll get all the clothes out of my room tonight. hopefully.

Yeah, Ember, I obviously know what you mean about the clothes, and I always say I have nothing to wear(and its quite obvious I do) I still can't believe I filled the entire table, and I'm not done!!!(okay, sid, calm down. cut it out on the !! already. calm down, you'll give yourself a heart attack or something.)

heh. now I'm talking to myself. oh well. back to work I go. I have not been buried yet!

paper angel <> Fri May 15 22:48:26 EDT 1998

i'll post tomorrow... been over 24 hours since the last three hours I slept. miserable. insomnia-thing. however, thought the clothes-thing was funny as hell. does it show that i am a miserable wretch as I have five pairs of pants to my name and a slew of nifty shirts and nothing to wear with my scads of beautiful hats? velvet hats in red, black, paisley, toppish hats (i refer to them as Tom Petty-in-drag hats) in velvet, tapestry, black ostrich feather plumed and chinese laced flowered, bowler hat, my fav 'fishy-scaled' hat, my pepto-bismal pink (must dye it!) ballerina head piece, my wonderful black ski cap which reaches down to my knees... pathetic... I need to buy clothes to match my wonderful, luscious hats. proud that i own but one smegging baseball cap with badtz-maru on it (that makes it okay). silly, i feel better thinking about different people here wearing some of my hats. and then there are my coats, which are all named, val, robbie, dela, fred, dad, and snob. respectively, that is. tired and such. think i can sleep. tazo: calm is helping but am out. will be looking for tazo in this area. night, night. (seems dreadfully early to sleep; only 9:45 pm.) more cheerful tomorrow, not that you haven't cheered me by the talk of clothes! you are such girls! >g<

Sid <> Fri May 15 23:26:31 EDT 1998

angel, you name your coats? hmm, never tried that. named a backpack once, but not a coat. But hats! I have two favorite hats, one indiana jones type, except its all brown leather, nice and comfy, and one purple velvet one with pink and blue ribbons. 'tis cool. and yes, we're girls, and proud of it! >g< oh, and if you want any hand-me-downs, let me know. i have bunches. (smile) literally.

corva <> Sat May 16 02:28:00 EDT 1998

ah....hats. Once Upon a Time i had a hat. my mother bought it for me from the streets of new york for twenty bucks and a broad grin and stories of her silly daughter creature. It was most grand! felt burgundy with a big lopsided brim and all thess funny pleaties round the back. it was my friend for a long while, went a wandering without me at a war. never saw my friend again. now, many years latter, i have found (been found by?) another felt hat. even bigger brim, plays with the wind a bit too much for its own safety, dark green, and alot of silly beads about...hat story...not much for the rest of the cloths things; just need/like 'em big and black...Ember-this one will try and send some alaskan light to combat your shadows.

NRL <riposte@earthlink.net> Sat May 16 04:40:53 EDT 1998

No hat. Messes up my quiff. I need new clothes. All my best stuff has holes and rips 'cause I wear it to death. Rather, I need new old clothes. I'm a thrift shop boy. 50s shirts and jackets. Early 60s mod suits.I refuse to wear anything with writing on it, especially corporate logos. I refuse to by designer crap. I want my clothes to be mine, not advertizing space for somebody else. DIY! Sorry. Rant. I'll stop now. Night.

Sid <> Sat May 16 07:41:20 EDT 1998

We have a really nice thrift shop not far from here if you're ever in Ohio, NRL. :)

boogel <boogel@juno.com> Sat May 16 21:13:05 EDT 1998

Hi all.....So is there anyone out there that remembers this old elf. I'm back on line. At least for a while. The address is a permanent one. I also have a not so permanent address at MSN (boogel@email.msn.com). My wandering days are behind me. I've put down roots in philadelphia. I've now meet the guy that runs Dancing Ferret Concerts here. He claims it was completely unintentional. I'll get him to admit it soon, he's a closet fan. As it stands I'll have my ears done late August. I still haven't given them my down payment. But I have a while. Nice to see you are all still here.

Claris <ccsmith@comp.uark.edu> Sat May 16 23:53:37 EDT 1998

Boogelmon! Hey, don't forget to join the mailing list, okay? right here

Cat <Cat@sonetcom.com> Sun May 17 12:31:49 EDT 1998

Boogel>> Good to finally meet you, man. I seem to remember your name from the Stickster's fan-fic page...

Hats>> I have two hats, both of the indestructible, crumple-it-up-and-it-can-still-be-straightened-out variety. One I use for Ren Faires (which are, for some reason, always scheduled when it's inhumanely hot outside... Couldn't we have a winter Renfaire and show off all our nice warm cloaks, instead?) to keep the sun out of my eyes. The other I bought just so I could have one genuine texan semi-cowboy hat (my wife tells me it actually makes me look like a riverboat gambler, but that's close enough for me). Of course, I didn't get around to buying that one until *after* I'd moved out of Texas, so it's not seeing a whole lot of use...

out of the house, in to the other one, but no go on home computer just yet... going nuts in rehearsal, so no time to set it up (let alone go through all my clothes etc and put them away... livin' like angel now... couple o pairs o' pants, shirts and DAT IS IT! *grin*
NRL> you find any nice black and red bowling shirts, send 'em my way.. there are NO thrift shops down here... *pout*

peace all... the ferret WILL be here soon (or so they tell me... )

Sid <> Sun May 17 15:02:57 EDT 1998

Cat, that's a good idea. A winter RenFaire. And most of my dresses are long-sleeved anyway, so it would work! And I have the nicest furlined cloak...hey, riverboat gambler like Mel Gibson in Maverick? I loved that movie.

Cat <Cat@sonetcom.com> Sun May 17 21:49:32 EDT 1998

Sid>> Yeah, that kind of hat. I'll have to get a picture taken so's Ah can scan it in.

NRL <riposte@earthlink.net> Mon May 18 04:22:19 EDT 1998

Sid, love to check those thrifts out. I don't even go into vintage stores anymore because, no matter how broke I am I always find some piece of clothing that just has to come home with me. I long for enough money to get out and splurge a little among the shirts and slacks. Foo! OH! Wild coincidence tonight. I drove a woman in the limo who had not only seen one of the movies I wrote, but also worked for a company I sold a script to a long long time ago and had read that script and liked it! Horrible Hollywood moment. We exchanged cards and said we'd call each other "real soon." She said she wanted to see more of my work! Yow! Limo driving, your key to the world of entertainment! G'night all!

Sid <> Mon May 18 09:15:14 EDT 1998

Hey, cool, NRL!! Good luck, hope she calls.

Cat, great! I want to see it.

Annachie <annachie@babelon.com> Mon May 18 13:50:56 EDT 1998

For not really being a hat person, I have more hats than I should (and I'm happy to say that when my brother and I go out, he is embarassed when I decide to put one on). As for the idea of a winter Renn Faire, I'm not sure that would work, at least out here. The sun may be uncomfortable, but the rain causes all sorts of other problems.

Paper Angel <> Mon May 18 21:04:38 EDT 1998

Stopped by to use the 'puter. I'm looking in to Washington U in St. >blech!< Louis. The only school in Misery, ahem, Missouri, that offers my major. *IF* I get in I won't be doing the transfer thing for over a year. So, here I am sending e-mails of inquiry and such. Whee. Oh, stupidly didn't get in to summerschool in time. >sigh< Oh well, I guess that means I can get another job to go with the other.

NRL, my father and his girlfriend have my plane tickets, so I can't give you much info just now. I know I will arrive on the 20th, though. That morning... Oh, and I guess I'll be flying Vanguard as that is where the g.f. works. I'll let you know soon. Gonna run over there and get the ticket soon and stick it in the fridge so I won't lose it.

Washington U in St. Louis. Read, carefully, silly corvid.

boogel <boogel@juno.com> Mon May 18 23:05:58 EDT 1998

Wash U isn't such a bad school. I spent many-a afternoon in their art/architecture library. The only decent one in town. And U City is the only thing resembling a bohemian counter culture hang-out. At least thats the way it used to be. I haven't lived there in a while. If you move to STL pick out a nice Denny's. You're going to be spending a lot of nights in them.

Anyway, the rest said, good luck on your search, Angel! well, i'll not lay out the current funky storm that seems to be following me, BUT it *is* the reason i've been quiet of late (though i doubt anyone will complain, eh? *grin*)

angel: i'm not a girl!! i'm not i'm not i'm not!!!! and i'll come over there and kick yer butt like a mean ol' boy just ot prove it! besides, most the clothes junkies i know (self proclaimed a "clothes whore" is one!) are male. of course, most the people in general i know are male....hmmmmm....no hats here.....well, some, but i find that my hair is very susceptible to suggestions. so once it is fixed one way, it stays. a hat is an all day thing for me. and i usually pick the wrong day. (besides, i don't really have much in the way of nifty hats.....so it's usually an embarassing "covering my hair while i crawl under car" hat......)

naming things: anything that you are going to spend lots of time with, that you have spent lots of money on, or that you will be upset to lose is a candidate for naming. yes, i do a lot of naming.

and i side with the silly corvid. u of washington is a better choice. i'll bet you'd make at least two friends very quickly. this is, of course, not at all a selfish bit of advice......annachie is wise. this i know. why be a goth in perpetual misery when you can come hang out in this rainy green city with a crowmama and her flock and a grrl who insists on being a boy(not an elegant goth *grin*). come on.....you know you wanna.......

in fact, that goes for any of you that are thinking of changing schools.......besides, then i could show you the troll under the bridge.......

time to try and answer some work mails before i must go.....(just in case: my good thoughts and energies to you and yours, crowgrrl)

Paper Angel <(I AM LOVED?)> Wed May 20 20:37:24 EDT 1998

(My apartment has no air con or fans yet so when I woke up this afternoon in a light sheen of sweat, I realised it was a good idea to further research different U's on the internet!!!!)
I'll look into Washington State, but it really looks unlikely. Let's think, no in-state tuition, everybody who can't get in to Cali wants there, and it is a hard one to get in anyway. I don't want to be in Misery all my life, but it is easier right now since I am living check to check. Of course if WU (pig soooie?) in Seattle was a possibility I could always offer to live with another guy, like m'man ember. (Said with straight face.) Oh, ember, finally have many uses for all my nifty band-aids. It is easy to gut all scraped up with nice weather and all! Skater pack across the street (unfriendly so we don't rat about) I have to practise a lot to compete. And easy to get hurt at work.

Crowmama, just want to say my thoughts are with you and Lurker, too. Tell us if he's okay and all?

SID! Tenakoe, dead-girl! Thank you for the e-card. It really fit.

I always put plane tickets in the icebox. Don't lose them and if I'm robbed they don't get stolen. Used to get robbed all the time in my old 'hood, so I have a very good sense of how to hide things. Nobody ever finds presents or porno (guffaw) in my living spaces!

Hello everyone! I am soooo happy! Got my 19" ADI monitor today and I am actually giving it a test run right now!!! The screen is HUGE! :) For a Refurbished monitor, I think I did very well. Great Pic! Hopefully I will have the rest of the parts this summer....sigh! Hope everyone is having a great week and will have a wonderful Memorial Day OFF! Wishing good things for Lurker. :)

Paper Angel <> Fri May 22 12:43:00 EDT 1998

Rowan, been missing you! Wow, this moniter is making my eyes bug. Or is it that I haven't slept since yesterday? Bwah hahaha! This screen just looks so... odd. I have to look more down than up. Even fonts look different. Weird!
ember, quiiiiiiit! I'm trying ever so hard to be logical, you can ask Van how hard that is for me! Writing isn't going to make me money and I'm sick of manual labor (I hate service jobs). Since I can't live comfortably with my first two picks I'll go to school to get my third. Of course, I would love to meet you so we can get into some macho bonding face-to-face, rather than screen-to-screen. We could go to some hockey games and cheer on the players hell-bent on maiming their opponents.
Trinlay! I'm very happy to hear the good news. You know, you might be able to pick up the paper at a newstand. I remember there's one a bit out of the way from here....

corva <off to LALA...> Fri May 22 13:45:23 EDT 1998

quit it? maybe her, but not me!!!!!!(great job ember, lets keep it up!) just be in the know that all is ment with love...hey sticks, hey rowan, hey trin, hey boogle; nice when friends drop by to visit huh?

Sid <still cleaning.urgh> Fri May 22 16:40:09 EDT 1998

Hey, 19 inches?!? Whew. I wouldn't know where to put it. Next thing you know they'll have 35 inch monitors like those big screen TVs, and the print will be big enough to see it across the room. Corva, have a good time!

Hey, I can walk from my door to the bed to the bathroom without stepping over anything!!! I think that's a first. :)

Sid, still cleaning. I feel like the energizer bunny.

<> Sat May 23 01:43:39 EDT 1998

Energizer Bunnicula?

Cat <Cat@sonetcom.com> Sat May 23 02:38:12 EDT 1998

Cleaning... Hm. Y'know, that's probably a good idea... Especially since a certain fluffy white cat seems to be shedding his winter coat all over our couch!

All still jumbled at work... And I'm still looking for something else, but a bit more quietly and discretely now that I seem to be out of the direct line of fire. I'm hoping this will give me time to find something that a) pays better (which would be almost anything, frankly) and/or b) has some kind of regular schedule, ideally one with weekends! It's probably too much to hope for both, though. heh.

Haven't been writing much; lethargic. Don't know if it's Carol being out of town, work wearing me down, or just the season... Lots that I need to do, though, to keep me from turning into a complete potato-of-the-couch!

Safe travels, everyone,
--Cat

Sid <still cleaning...> Sat May 23 09:40:20 EDT 1998

So your cat is really shedding all over you on the couch? (grin) And who made that crack about Bunnicula and didn't sign their name?!?(although I will admit I thought it was very funny. Way too funny this early in the morning.)well, its not early, but it feels like it. Have a nice memorial day weekend everyone!(I'll be cleaning most of it.)But I get to go see Godzilla tonight!

Sid <> Sat May 23 21:54:42 EDT 1998

No Godzilla. It rained. :-(

Paper Angel <who is admitting nothing> Sun May 24 15:34:27 EDT 1998

Godzilla sucked. Saw it last night. If you take all the acting peoples out, it was good. I have always loved the big lug, so the way it went was sad. The military was portrayed *badly* and totally unbelievable. It was frustrating. Could not suspend disbelief. However, seeing the fx is worth it. Still, I felt guilty for watching it to the end for some reason.

Sid <still raining.anyone need some?> Sun May 24 17:40:32 EDT 1998

well, doesn't look like we'll get to see it this weekend at all. Its up at the drive-in. sigh. Angel, heard it was pretty predictable, but I really liked the part in the preview with the museum and the class, and the dinosaur skeleton. Hopefully she'll hold it over for another week, but I doubt it. Or else she'll put it at the Midway(which is indoors...can't do much outside when we get so much rain, and its going to storm again!)

Parents are home, my room is 1/2 cleaned. I spent all week on it too. Gonna post pictures if they turn out so you guys will see that I'm not kidding when I say it was really a mess. Still is, but not as bad. Now its relatively organized chaos.

And why aren't you admitting anything, Angel?>g<(had to ask)

hey there....up the Hill, eyes are icky, keep finding things that ought to have been used(like salt shakers and CDs and suchs) and they are untouched by human hands! hrm.....lessee....had written a bit friday, but my machine here at work went wonky, so let's try again.

angel: fraid that i am too interested in having grrrrrl friends (especially ones to watch hockey with, as i haven't been to a match since before i moved here) to be nice and back off. seattle is a good place. i will either end up here or the bay area as a permanent sort of home. besides, if you come here, you can be up close and personal with me, crowmama, bear, etc......and who could ask for more?

sid: room cleaning for those of us not living spartan lives is always more daunting than we think....there are times i consider throwing it all on a bonfire and starting over with just a few things. but everytime i start to make the mental list of what those few things are......i realize why it is that my front rooms are as clean as can be (well, roommate-dependant) and my own room is a cluttered but (generally) neat bunch of piles and stacks and unfinished projects.

crowmama: was worth the disruption! very nice to have hugs and bodies. and that bear of yours reminds me much of little me. eek. be careful. while there are worse things one can grow up to be, i know many a soul who prays nightly that their children not end up like meself.

must off to finish some blah tasks and then patch up a fight.....(nasty weekend had me being less than kind to dear friends......feh.....)

Did I say 'lethargic' in that last post? Well, whatever, that isn't it. I've been out to the wildlife refuge twice in the last week, visited the Faerie Tower (They blocked it up again, but I'll figure out how to get back in sooner or later.) and did some climbing/hiking kinds of things, even found a nice stream to cool off in. Way, way cool. If I keep this up, I'll have enough of tan to pass as one of the local Native Americans. Te he. Maybe my body just needed exercise more than my mind needed to be creative?

Hope everyone else is doing as well as I am right now,

NRL <riposte@earthlink.net> Thu May 28 04:35:13 EDT 1998

Hey, y'all. Haven't posted in a while. Been busy and tired. Come home, read e-mail, go to sleep. Finally a moment. Two good things this weekend. No, three. Went to the Renaisance Faire on memorial day! Had a great time. It was cold though. Weird for california in May, but I guess not so wierd for El Nino. For once I wasn't too hot in my costume. In fact I was chilly. Went with my friends TJ and Elisa, who are both true warriors and dressed acordingly. TJ as a cavalier, and Elisa as a leather doubleted barbarian. In real life they are the stunt people who get into the Power Ranger and Beetle Borg costumes and do all the flips and fighting. We had a great time, feasting, watching the joust and flirting with all and sundry. Then on tuesday I went to see Bulworth. I highly recommend it. It's funny, savagely satirical and political and will make you have arguements with the people you see it with about how to save the world. Went to a barbeque on Sunday, and our host is a top notch chef, so the grub was fantastic. All in all, one of my better weekends, even though I worked most of the rest of it. Okay, bed again. Work tomorrow. Gotta stop talking in sentence framents. Horrible habit. Stopping now. Really. AGGGG!!!!

Hey, TW. Welcome back. We've missed you.

ember the Ice Queen <state of change> Thu May 28 17:24:09 EDT 1998

okay, i have sat on my butt long enough to disgust even myself. truth is, despite my general disatisfaction with it, i *know* i have some good poetry. and i want to publish. and i know this little board has all sorts of creative people passing through. so i thought i'd start with a not here:

looking for writers, particularly poets, particularly those with experience in being published (or trying to achieve that state). WHY? moral support, opinions, maybe collaboration. (which reminds me, stickman, you said you would collaborate.....mail me, mon!) mail me....let me know.....quite serious.

matter of fact, i was thoroughly ignored *sniffle* when i asked if anyone here wanted to collaborate. do you persons just balk at collaboration? or is it cause you know what a mean nasty i am? (or maybe you are students.....that i understand....but, hey....summer......)

oh, and tw, now that you are back, i love your pics. let's talk?

anyhow, i swear this is the last i'll bug the board about this. (didi can tell you, i'm a steamroller when i'm after something i want. but i'll go easy on ya'll.) takers? celestne@nwlink.com

okay, back to this never-ending class i'm in.....

Ember>> Send me some of your stuff so I can see what kind of things you do, neh? I haven't responded on collaboration because my schedule is insane in the truest senses of the word.

Corva>> Far as I know it's still running, but I haven't tried in the last 24 hours or so.

Corva--I don't know about the list, I haven't gotten anything all week it seems, and wondered. I'll send a test this morn.

Ember--What kind of poetry do you write? I'm sure there are many places out there to get them published... heck, I might even have a couple places for you myself. :)

Cat--Glad you're having a nice time!

Techie--Hi!!! Glad you're back!

NRL--umm, barbeque. sounds good. what did you go as to the RenFaire? Everyone else--Have fun at A-Kon, wish I was there.

TLO <moei@leland.stanford.edu> Fri May 29 15:45:46 EDT 1998

*TLO wanders back through, waving at everyone* Dropping in just before finals... Long time no see y'all. *huggles for anyone who wants!* Bluch. Trying not to be depressed by the fact it looks like I might be flunking the same Calculus class AGAIN. I feel like such a slacker. *TLO sighs and shrugs, pirouetting* Enough of that... nice to see y'all are back, TW and Boogel... Have fun at A-Kon, wish I was there. :) Two more weeks of hell, then I can go home and face the music...then off to summer school for more of that math. Am I a masochist or what? *TLO slaps herself for thinking about math*

I also introduced a couple folx from alt.callahans to the Wherehouse, and they were quite suitably impressed... :) One of them's a Btown fan, and apparently a friend of Matt Cook (Remember 'im?)... she got drawn as an elf by Cook, who's an EXCELLENT artist, btw. Lost the URL, though, but if anyone wants, I can go dig through DejaNews.

*TLO mutters about the insanity of being forced to wear a sweater in late May in CA, for ghods' own sakes* That's El Nino, boys'an'girls...El Nino. 122 days of rain since January. The favorite pastime these days is commenting sagely "El Nino" and nodding whilst rolling your eyes at the sky. (Don't let me get into the logistics of rolling your eyes at the sky... call it a kind of magic, okay? :) )

Book Recommendation: Bridge of Birds, by Barry Hughart. Main characters are "Number Ten Ox and Li Kao, a scholar with a slight flaw in his character"... Very cool book.

Later,

TLO

Ember, believe me, I know the feeling about poetry. I've got a ton of stuff I've written (just haven't had time to re-webify it. ;) And unfortunately, my attempts to get published are next to nought. The only notable exception was a poem that I had published in my High School Literary Magazine. Woo. :) Also, as far as the pictures go, what you wanna talk about? Feel free to email me about pics and/or writing, I'd be glad to talk/ work with you on it. Also, New treat for those of you who know, I've infected my SO with the Btown bug, so hopefully she'll be making guest appearances now and then, and I have a rough draft of her version of "Clover", and frankly, I'm much more impressed with her version than my original story. ;) Anyways, I'll quit rambling now. Off to go run errands.. At least before tonight's batch of storms hit. (Thank you El Nino or whatever!!) You guys in California get wierd cold weather, I'm getting severe thunderstorms, 50+ mph winds and tornadoes every night.. YAY!!!

Sid and Corva, I am a noble. Velvet doublet in the Italian style, black tights and flat black shoes. I use those cloth soled Chinese shoes, they seem pretty close to the look. I have a sword belt, pouch, a hanger for a dagger but no dagger, though I borrowed one, and a black leather domino mask. I always think of myself as some disolute second son who's bummed around Italy too much, sketching, writing and flirting, and who's wandered back to the Shire in time for spring, ready to make fun of his prissy and stitched up, bundled up English cousins. I grow a little goatee for the faire and it adds a mischievious mephistophilean (sp) look to my usually clean cut, gee-whiz face. That and the mask are licence for licenciousness.

Sid <> Sat May 30 07:43:10 EDT 1998

Sounds neat, NRL! (and a bit like one of the fellows we did a bun contest on at our Ren Faire. hehe.)I usually go as a minstrel/gypsy-type,(or as close to a 'lady' as I can using the costumes I own. Velvet. yum. It might be hot, but I think I'll wear the velvet this year.)

Well, I buckled down, am sending a story to F&SF today, wish me luck everyone!(I probably don't even have a chance, but I figured what the heck. ;)

so Ember d'ya need an artist/illustrator/graphics geek/book binder? One can actually do some pretty nice "self publishing" done at a local print shop... or on a photocopier depending... (come to think of it I need to call my friend and ask how her book is going.) The hard part IMHO with "self publishing" is covering the printing costs and finding places that will sell it... It might not be a bad idea to start doing a Zine to start with... and send it out to friends (I used to do one, and should revive it.) ... and maybe get it out to the general public via the local music shop/used-alternative bookstores etc. I did my zine as a quarterly (using the Celtic holidays to keep me somewhat on schedual) on a sort of Sci-Fi/Fantasy/SCA theme... with all sorts of other fandom etc isms in it too. It was fun but had a tiny circulation.

I just dropped in to catch up on over TWO WEEKS of posts!!! I _hate_ not having regular computer access. Soon... soon... soon... oh, er, ahem. Greetings to all and sundry (if you're wondering who Sundry is, it's not you). I miss you all like *#@!

Had a good but hot'n'humid time in Nawlins, went to Cafe du Monde and had beignets (sp?), ate crawfish and poboys, blistered the bottoms of my feet (do *not* try this yourself, it makes walking interesting).

Then went to Colo. for a week to hang with the fam. Pop and I talked pooters, looked at everything we like. We went to a Gateway store, which was actually a good experience (meaning: the sales guy actually addressed comments to me, a lowly woman). I think I'm mail ordering a computer, though. I want too many diff. things! *g*

Corva--did you say you were having a "long grey morning"? I often have those myself *g*. Actually, I have come to value grey, melancholy days. Good for reflection.

Well, I'm off again. Hugs and kisses over the ether.

--Ethereally, Grey

NRL <riposte@earthlink.net> Wed Jun 3 13:13:25 EDT 1998

Angel, *gulp*, you realize that I am now going to spend the rest of the time until your arrival looking for dragons for you to defend me from. *swoon*

Claris <ccsmith@comp.uark.edu> Wed Jun 3 14:26:10 EDT 1998

Oo, go NRL! LOL. I think Shikake and I have a mutual/back-to-back dragon defense going on...hmm...*g* Ah anyway. In the photos I've seen so far, Angel is on the left. I love the one where she's fixing her hair, she looks like such the kittycat. Er. Big fierce LIONESS, that's what I meant. ^_~ I have lumps in all the wrong places and am totally embarassed by the pics I've seen so far, but oh well. o.o; That's what you get for wearing stuff like that in public. *hides*

Oh my gods, the CD I picked up is SO good. It's sending chills down my spine. Angel, it's strangely Graeme Ravell-esque. *shiver*

Okay, here's my itinerary re. things I've promised various people. 1) Post A-Kon review. 2) Upload new Manga Gallery page to my site. 3) Upload survey answers and chara descs to Wherehouse site. (Now accepting rumors!!!) 4) Design and make the Wherehouse buttons. It looks like given my financial status I'm going to have to beg a dollar of anyone who wants a button (they're costing me the same amount as if I had someone else make them, which sucks, but there aren't any alternatives...I HATE THIS TINY BURG!)...but please wait till they actually exist! *g* ^^;
Anyway, there ya go. Hey, it's past noon, I think I'll get dressed now. x_x

Vandellyr Quior <wilderun@swbell.net> Wed Jun 3 17:37:06 EDT 1998

The pics I took at A-kon came out this time!!!! YAY! But I was still too far away to get any good pics at the cos play. My good pics were out side in the main hall....Gee..Maybe next year I will have a zoom lens camera with me....Ah well.

My real gripe today is with my family and the hell they have put me thru. I decided to take a look at that college bill my biological father chose to ignore awhile back and discovered it is $4549. I can't get my credits released till the amount is paid...I have not talked to him in years due to this issue and now I never will. (He signed a court agreement to paid this bill several years ago. But refused to pay) I decided that I would try to take care of it myself now that I actually am not struggling for every last cent. Now I see I am going to be struggling yet again....sigh. It seems that every cent I get closer to paying off a debt leaves me in a hole for another.

ember the Ice Queen <just moments left to closing down...> Wed Jun 3 18:39:34 EDT 1998

angel: gotta go with claris. sorry, grrly! i like someone to catch my back. that way, we make a great dragon-fighting team when we are both able, but they can catch me if i'm out or vice versa. used to want a someone i could be manly over, but realized that i get restless with that. most the pretty ones *do* have all the soft and hard parts mixed up. (no, i will *not* allow my mind to go there......:-P)

must get to a page to see the akon pics!!!!

sid:fabrics.....mostly i am upset cause i had lots of nice lace and black materials.....and the one dress that the friend made from the material looked great on me. wanna see the true weaker sex, get one of us all dolled up, even one with a rep like mine, and watch the boys fall all over themselves.....anyhow, that dress got stolen at a con. grrrrrr.......um....so, you say mostly cotton prints? it would be much easier to do this if we all lived a bit closer, neh? maybe *you* should come to school at uw. like angel is going to, RIGHT ANGEL?!?!?!?!
*snicker*

van: if i had my school loans paid off, i might eat regularly. *smirk* nasty. want someone to come along to remind the man about his court agreement? i'm in a nasty bitter mood of late and would love an excuse to go back-to-back with you and angel in a valiant effort that involves violence. *leer*

off to the "real world," which gets murkier daily.......feh.

ember

Sid <> Wed Jun 3 20:01:00 EDT 1998

Claris, will you do mail-order? And what kind of rumors do ya want?

Unfortunately, I doubt I'd end up as a dragonslayer... I'd be the one in the corner writing it all down.(g)

Grey!!!!!!!!!!Hello!!!!Long time no hear! Hope you get a computer really soon!

Ember, how 'bout this. When I go through the material, I'll take a pic of what I don't want, and post it somewhere (and yes, the pics of my legendary(g) room will be up as soon as I develop the pics.)and if you see anything you want(or anyone else for that matter, just say. Cause I really don't have any idea what I have--I just know I'm not going to buy material EVER AGAIN!!! hehe. at least, not unless I find some great buys.

Do you know, I think the worst part of sending stories out to magazines and letters out to agents is the waiting!! I'm haunting both my email and my mailbox. sigh.

corva <with the hermitage> Wed Jun 3 21:09:33 EDT 1998

...think this one ends up on the dragon's side rather often but maybe it is other dragons we are speaking of no? must figure some way to blacken this damn brace They(weirdo doctor types) tell me i must wear for now...it is awful white! ssooooo, with all of these fine peoples coming to UW to study it sounds like we ought have a BTown Major; a library as well?(yesyes, my plot thickens!!!thanxs emberella!). So many of us have these families that just don't seem to have a very good definition of "family"...different seasons wander about and give notice of themselves-smile. Good Travels All!

Sid <somewhere in Faerie> Wed Jun 3 21:50:12 EDT 1998

Brace? Wrist problems, Corva? ick. My wrist aches in sympathy, but my problem is CTS. ergh.

Oh, ember, can't come to UW, unfortunately. I'll be satisfied, I think, with being a Jen-of-all-trades. :) At least for now.

trinlay <trin@dias.net> Wed Jun 3 23:56:34 EDT 1998

wrist injuries all over... are they contagious or something... (I'm actually nursing an OLD injury that's flared up for no apparent reason... must be El Nino...) I think that if the brace is washable it should be dyeable. Check out the Tek dyes at the art stores. Also~ I'm reviving a 'zine I used to do but haven't done in years. _Dewachen_ (formerly ShadowLeaf Forest), and I need stuff to put in it! all kinds of stuff, particularly fandom type stuff. (any kind of fandom) and BORDERLAND is perfect actually. The theme is folklore/sci-fi/fantasy/pop-culture/alt culture/ as expressions and explorations of Spirituality, Psychology and Sociology. In other words, have fun! also I'm passing around some survey questions. 1) where (if there is one) is the line between fan and kook? 2) What IS in Kwai Chan Caine's satchel? (either old series or "Legend continues" version) and I'm sure more questions will arise over time. so send submissions, $2 and your mailing address to: Trinlay Khadro p.o.Bx 24708 Brown Deer, Wi 53224-0708 USA
